The Future of the Ocean Begins in the Classroom: Shark Egg Care at Agora Lledó

At Agora Lledó International School, our students are taking part in a truly unique educational experience that connects learning with real-world action: caring for shark eggs, in collaboration with the Azul Marino Foundation and with the support of Oceanogràfic de València.

Thanks to this initiative, our students have the rare privilege of closely following the development of these fascinating marine animals — true guardians of oceanic balance.

Throughout the project, pupils are learning how to:

  • Maintain water quality to ensure healthy development
  • Act quickly if air bubbles appear in the eggs
  • Control light and temperature to protect the embryos
  • And, most importantly, how to respect and preserve marine life

We’ve already witnessed the birth of our first baby shark, and we’re excited to welcome more throughout the month of June! The enthusiasm and commitment of our students couldn’t be higher.

Once ready, these young sharks will return to their natural home — the Mediterranean Sea. But their legacy will remain in the hands and minds of our students, who are not just learning science, but growing in ecological awareness and global responsibility.

This project goes beyond the classroom. Our students will present their work at the Youth Leadership Encounter hosted by the International Schools Association, in Miami, where they’ll join young leaders from around the world to discuss how education and cultural collaboration can help protect our marine ecosystems.

We would like to give special thanks to the Azul Marino Foundation for their dedication, inspiration and support, and to Oceanogràfic de València for bringing us this incredible opportunity.

Now more than ever, Agora Lledó is committed to an education rooted in real-life experiences — one that shapes conscious citizens and plants seeds for a more sustainable future.

The ocean has a voice... and it begins in our classrooms.
